About Nathan

I'm currently working to save up for school. I've been playing music since 5th grade in school band and choir programs, and 'ukulele has been a hobby/obsession for me for about six years. I enjoy trying new things with the instrument, but still focusing on the standard skills.

About the lesson

My journey of teaching myself 'ukulele was filled with joy every step of the way. I'd love to help you meet your goals - and also have fun during the weeks or months that it will take!

I enjoy teaching students that love learning. I prefer individual lessons, but group lessons are okay as well. I'm able to teach all levels of 'ukulele. I start with the basics; how to hold the instrument, how to touch it, how to get a good sound out of it. Then we move on to basic music theory; reading notes on the treble (and later bass) clefs, reading rhythms, and reading music. I teach ear training; how to hear music and how to discern, what music to listen to to promote what you're practicing, and how to appreciate music. But most importantly, I teach how to use your imagination and develop your creativity, and how to make your own music.

Diana values art. She expresses herself with it, for the benefit of her and those around her. She is eager to share and teach others about herself, and I look forward to seeing how she applies that energy to learning; learning about art, about her relationship with it, and learning about her teacher. If I had the opportunity to meet her for the first time again, I would certainly take it.

I'm a professional, highly experienced tumbling and acrobatics coach. Nathan is my son. I've taught him some important things that benefit his interactions with students.
I taught him to value people, and seek to uplift them. Teaching is a great way to do this, and teachers who have this goal are the very best teachers. Nathan seeks to uplift others.
I'm also having Nathan shadow me this week in the classes I coach at the academy where I teach acrobatics to incredibly accomplished dancers. I'm also going to have him shadow me in some private lessons at the academy.
I'll be training him in how to teach - getting and holding attention, listening to students, preparing for teaching sessions, handling difficult situations, and other valuable guidelines and snippets of wisdom I've accumulated from the teachers and coaches I learned from. And some that I discovered all on my own!

In short, I've done my level best to make Nathan into an incredible human being, and I feel very successful in that endeavor. I'm also going to give him real-world training to help him be a better teacher.
