About Xandrija
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching music privately for over a decade, I have worked for two local authorities, BYMT and LMS and I have also worked for various academies. I took the CELTA two years ago and have been teaching English since then privately and also at BELS academy in Malta. As a performer, I have freelanced for many years, I have played regularly with orchestras such as the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, L'orchestre du Centre Philharmonique and St. Paul's Sinfonia. I have played with Joseph Calleja and for Angelina Jolie. For more information, please see my website (concealed information)
On the piano, I regularly accompany my students for exams and concerts and play the organ for church services.
I have completed teacher training courses for Trinity & Guildhall and regularly attend Teacher Conferences in order to keep up to date with pedagogy.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I am not currently teaching for the local authorities as I have not had time this year, however in all previous years I have had a DBS (CRB) and I have just applied for a portable one to start from January as I will probably work for some schools next year
- Where and with whom did you train?
After University, I had tuition with Ofer Faulk (Leader of the Allegri Quartet), Dona Lee Croft (Soloist and Professor at The Royal College of Music) and Cynthia Fleming (Leader of the BBC Concert Orchestra. I have also attended teacher conferences (ABRSM) as part of my Continued Professional Development training and I have also completed the Trinity & Guildhall KS2 Music Teaching course.
I have also completed the CELTA training and taught in English schools in Malta and Spain.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
The Musician's Union
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I now have a number of students who have been coming to me for many years. Sadly I will miss them soon as they will be going to University but it has been wonderful to see them progress from wide-eyed beginners to the mature students they are today.
