About Chema

I'm Chema, a native Spanish speaker from Spain living in the UK, and a fully qualified teacher. I hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in teaching Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), so my lessons are built on proper teacher training, not just being a native speaker.

Spanish is my first language and sharing it is my passion, so I created Viva la Lingua to help people of all ages learn Spanish in a clear, friendly and structured way. I've taught both Spanish and English to children and adults, and I know from my own experience of learning English what it feels like to be the student: the nerves, the plateaus and the joy of that first real conversation. That's why I keep my lessons patient, encouraging and focused on real progress.

I'm also the author of my own Spanish course books, starting with "Español paso a paso A1", now available on Amazon, with further levels on the way. I use them in my lessons so every student has a clear path from beginner to fluent.

I'd love to help you discover the language and culture I grew up with. ¡Nos vemos en clase!

¡Hola! I'm Chema, a native Spanish speaker and qualified teacher (QTS) with a degree in teaching Modern Foreign Languages. I teach Spanish online to kids and adults at every level, from complete beginners (A1) to advanced speakers (C2).

My lessons are structured, practical and fun, and planned the way a trained MFL teacher plans: clear objectives for every lesson and regular checks on progress. Each course follows the Common European Framework (A1–C2), using course books I've written myself for each level, so you always know what you're learning and how you're progressing. Before we start, you can take a short level test so we begin in exactly the right place.

In class we focus on real communication: speaking from day one, listening to natural Spanish, and building grammar and vocabulary step by step through conversation, games, role-plays and everyday situations. Lessons for children are lively and interactive; lessons for adults are tailored to your goals, whether that's travel, work, exams, family or simply the love of the language.

I offer small-group classes as well as one-to-one lessons. Lessons typically last 60 minutes and are held online, so you can learn from anywhere.

Whether you're starting from zero or want to finally feel confident speaking, I'll help you get there. ¡Vamos!
