About Luke

My studio is able to accomodate students of any age with a passion to learn. With over a decade of study in various disciplines of classical music, I offer lessons which go above and beyond basic instruction. On top of instruction in their instrument, my students receive lessons in theory and history to bolster their skills.

Watching students gain confidence through their work is so wonderful to experience. Music gives people an outlet to express themselves while building independance and accountability and I love to be a part of that process.

I worked for my university as a theory tutor and teach privately in Chicago.

I graduated Summa cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Lawrence University. While in this program, I received extensive instruction in music pedagogy, performance, composition, and theory. My years of study in each instrument are as follows:

Voice - 10 years
Viola - 10 years
Guitar - 8 years
Violin - 4 years
Piano - 4 years

About the lesson

In their first lesson, I work with my students to figure out exactly where they are in their understanding of music. Even my beginning students often know more than they think they do. I establish my expectations and studio rules and then ask what the student hopes to gain from their lessons so I may tailor their studies.

I regularly work with K-8 students, university students, and occasionally adults and seniors.

Finding a teacher that works with your personality is paramount. A student who feels comfortable and supported by their teacher will make the most progress.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what they wish to gain from lessons. Is the end goal to learn a new skill or set the foundation for a career in music? Or perhaps something in between? All of these are valid answers, but knowing what one wants will set one up for success.
