About Kristina

Hello prospective student! My name is Kristi Bird-Ogaz and I was raised by a musical director/musician who signed me up with a very reputable classical piano instructor. I took lessons for 11 years starting at the age 7. I learned scales, theory, technique and various classical pieces along with pop music. I believe in teaching students the basics so that a firm foundation is created, but then feel it’s important to allow students to choose popular music of their choice to explore their taste in music.

I started teaching piano lessons when I was 17 years old, developed incredible site reading abilities, started playing piano at church when I was 12 years old, and played for various events such as weddings, funerals, and dinner parties. I practiced every day for many years and enjoy passing down my knowledge to youngsters, teens and adults. It’s very rewarding and when I speak to people about playing the piano, almost all say they wishes they hadn’t quit or wish they had taken lessons.

I went to college for 6 years and hold my MBA and I have been teaching for well over 20 years. I am classically trained and use various teaching books based on the student. I meet them where they are at in their studies. I believe that students should start lessons when they are 6+ years old and I offer beginner, intermediate and some advanced lessons which last 30-40 minutes per lesson.

I teach out of my home located in East Orlando and lessons are available starting at 6:00pm weekdays and I also teach during the day and evenings on weekends. I may teach students at their house depending the distance from my house for an additional charge.

I treat students with respect and believe in being approachable. If teachers are too rigid and stern, the students will be nervous and not look forward to their lessons. I expect students to practice every day and for parents, there will be times your child may want to quit in the beginning when it gets hard. Don’t let them quit! Once they get over the “hump” and find they can play their favorite songs, they will thrive! I do have one rule though. Pop music cannot be practiced until they practice their core music assigned such as scales, technique and theory. It’s like making your children finish their dinner before they can have dessert.
