About Ashwini

Hi! My name is Ashwini Anantharaman, I'm 18 years old, and I will be attending Santa Clara University as a Biomedical Engineering Major this fall. I've played the piano for around 13 years now, and have completed every Certificate of Merit Level (1 - 10) in which I've recently just received the senior pianist award. I've also been a recipient of multiple other accolades such as the Impromptu finalist in the International Colors of Chopin Competition as well as some state honors for the Certificate of Merit Examination. I've been a dedicated volunteer in the senior home where I've played in dining halls and lobbies monthly and also taught senior citizens of all skill levels. I've also self-founded a nonprofit through which my team and I made lesson plans and taught students from ages 4-9. Piano is truly a huge part of my life - it's my safe space and my emotional anchor. Teaching piano isn't just about passing on technique for me—it's about sharing that personal connection to music and helping others find their own passion in piano, and hopefully that will be you!

About the lesson

In a typical lesson, students would be expected to bring a piece of repertoire that they are interested in learning ( any genre !), and I'll decide whether or not that particular arrangement is within the student's playing level. If not, I'd assign a repertoire that the student and I mutually agree on. I'm a firm believer that when students play what they love, they play it well! I'll walk the student through the piece of repertoire for the first 30 minutes, and the last 15 minutes are always dedicated to some theory practice/sight reading. All ages are welcome! Music isn't supposed to be competitive or perfected - it's supposed to be cherished and pursued with passion. If you enjoy music/playing the piano, this class is for you!
