About Jose

My approach to teaching Spanish is rooted in fostering confidence and fluency. I use a communicative and interactive style that encourages students to immerse themselves in the language. Each lesson balances linguistic precision with cultural depth, drawing on authentic materials like literature, media, and current events. With a focus on advanced-level courses, I also integrate rigorous academic content to prepare students for success in exams and beyond. I believe in creating an encouraging environment where students feel supported to take risks and grow.

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy emphasizes a communicative approach, where students actively engage in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish. I integrate real-world scenarios and cultural contexts to make the language meaningful and practical. I also prioritize differentiated instruction, adapting lessons to suit individual learning styles and needs. For advanced-level courses, I incorporate authentic materials, such as literature, film, and media, to challenge students and deepen their understanding of the language and culture.

A Typical Lesson Plan:

Warm-Up (5–10 minutes): Begin with a quick review or a short activity, such as discussing a cultural topic, reviewing vocabulary, or practicing conversation.
Core Activity (20–30 minutes): Focus on a key skill or concept, such as grammar, literature analysis, or writing. For example, AP students might analyze a poem or interpret historical texts.
Interactive Practice (15–20 minutes): Engage students in collaborative activities like debates, role-playing, or group discussions. For DC and honors classes, this may include a Socratic seminar.
Closure (5–10 minutes): End with a reflection or formative assessment, such as a brief written response or peer feedback on their speaking skills.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
With over 20 years of teaching experience in Spain and the United States, I bring a unique, bicultural perspective to my lessons. My expertise spans advanced-level curricula, including AP and DC courses, where I guide students to excel academically while fostering a deep appreciation for Hispanic culture and literature. My ability to connect with students and tailor lessons to their goals ensures their success and engagement.

Who the Lessons Are For:
My lessons are designed for high school and college-level students pursuing advanced Spanish studies. This includes AP Spanish Language and Literature, dual-credit courses, and honors classes. Whether students are preparing for exams, improving fluency, or exploring Spanish culture, my lessons are tailored to meet their academic and personal objectives.
