About Sophie
Hi, I'm Sophie!
Over the past ten years, I have been lucky enough to travel extensively and use my linguistic skills to connect with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. In addition to tutoring, I have been a speech confidence facilitator for adults with Parkinson’s, a professional mentor, a neurodiversity educator in the workplace, and an academic researcher. I've always loved learning, but what makes me tick is seeing other people enjoy learning, too, and reaping all the rewards that come alongside that - becoming more self-confident, independent, and curious.
Learning another language can be challenging and daunting, but I firmly believe it's something we can all do - it's just finding the right way to do it! I look forward to hearing from you and working with you on this journey.

My tutoring approach is highly collaborative, and I like to think of myself as an academic mentor as well as a tutor. I know firsthand that tutoring is most effective when it's informed by each person’s individual learning styles, and I like to personalise my lesson plans as much as possible to my students' preferences. This way, we can work towards academic success that extends beyond their short-term goals, leading to a lifelong love of learning.
During my MSc in Developmental Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, my research focused on differences in second language learning among autistic adolescents and adults. As such, I use emerging research in psychology and neuroscience of language to inform my language teaching approach. Above all, I’m deeply passionate about making language-learning accessible (and fun!) to all students.
I have tutored children ages 5-18 in the UK and Switzerland, including once as an au pair. My tutoring experience
encompasses English literature, history and linguistics, with a focus on foreign languages. The majority of my students are preparing for their GCSE and A Levels, and under my tutelage, one of my most recent students moved from a D to an A in A Level History, securing them a place at their first-choice university.
However, I have also supported adults with their second language studies, as well as teaching English as a second language. Typically, my lessons are 1-1.5 hours long, depending on the student's preferences and what's most effective for them.
