About Pete

My 40 year career in the industry has taken me home and abroad, performing or directing, musical or straight acting, comedy or drama...and everything in between! I have run a drama college, been Head of Department at three others and have stuck by my principles throughout, even when asked to compromise; I would rather walk away than be dishonest with myself and consequently those who trust me.

As a performer I have experienced relatively little unemployment across those decades - this may be because I am exteremly tall with a bass-baritone voice and therefore very 'castable', but equally, judging by the amount of time I have worked for the same companies, directors and organisations more than once, it may be because I try to do an excellent job wherever I go.

I have worked with would-be drama students from scratch who have been accepted into their chosen college or university, and equally I have successfully 'refresher-coached' seasoned pros who have been frustrated by many near misses. My time on TV as drama coach to 'Josephs' or 'Strictly' dancers introduced me to some higher profile clients, and 'Gladiators' meant that continued into yet another genre of performer!

I will always be honest, always ask you to have an intelligent approach and never pander to instant results that lack depth.

About the lesson

I deal in the realities of the industry. I have been teaching / coaching for decades now with excellent results ranging from drama college entry to seasoned pros and celebrities. I have taught at most of the major MT colleges in London and beyond, and have been Head of Department in several establishments.

Dreams are wonderful (and absolutely necessary) but you need to be useful, accessible, employable, and ultimately you are reliant upon someone else wanting what you have to offer, so it is always about being the best option for the brief they are looking to fill.

I tend to specialise in Acting Through Song or 'The Missing Third' - the drama within MT; the difference between a song simply being performed and a 'performance'. Many can sing, much fewer can perform.

I teach in 60 or 90 minute blocks and price accordingly. Based in Essex, I am happy to teach face to face or online. I have taught at all levels but prefer older students, 16/17 and above, as my approach involves much thought and does not suit younger pupils so well.
