About Kayla

In 2020, I graduated from the University of the Sunshine Coast with a Bachelor of Creative Industries, major in Creative Writing (GPA 6.63). I graduated High School in 2016, with an ATAR of 97.60. I have now returned to uni for a second time and am currently studying a Bachelor of Mathematics / Engineering (Honours) at the University of Queensland.

I have 12 years tutoring experience, catering to all levels and abilities, and I am currently an Academic Staff at the University of Queensland, teaching Engineering tutorials/workshops. My experience includes 6 years working as a Mathematics 2IC at tutoring centre (NumberWorks’nWords), study leader at the University of the Sunshine Coast, tutoring marker at Kumon Australia, mentor for the Search for the Next Tech Girl Superhero and a mentor for new students at the University of Queensland. I am 27 years old and I hold a current QLD Blue Card (Working with Children Check).

In my work as a tutor, I hope to create positive impacts in students’ lives and inspire a love for learning.

About the lesson

️* Dear Parents/Students, in order to contact any tutor, the Superprof Platform charges a subscription fee, which gets deducted as soon as a tutor replies to your initial message. This fee is separate from tuition fees to the tutor, and the tutor does not receive any payment from the subscription fee that is paid to Superprof. ️

~Cost~
- Individual (one-on-one) Tutoring: $100/hr
- Group Tutoring: $80/hr
- School holidays workshops: run by donations
Group tutoring capped at 10 students (Sessions are capped to ensure I can deliver individualised support to all students).

~Location~
All sessions are offered online via Zoom in an interactive and engaging format. Online lessons have the added benefit to students, as they allow for tutoring to take place from your own home without the need to travel and can increase flexibility with lessons / times available for sessions. All topics will visually demonstrated using Zoom’s whiteboard feature and students are also able to write on the whiteboard, allowing collaboration and interactivity throughout the whole lesson.

~Creative Writing Tutoring~
Students will learn the core skills needed to create captivating stories that engage the reader from start to finish, and will empower students to improve their creative writing skills. Tutoring can also cover content on how to craft engaging dialogue between characters into their stories to add further complexity into their writing.

- Primary school (yr 5 - 6) and high school (yr 7 - 12)
- Adult learners

~Maths Tutoring~
Maths tutoring will focus on building core maths skills aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Topics from the current year level (or extension topics) will be presented in an engaging and fun manner with a focus on understanding ‘how’ and ‘why’ the maths works. Students regularly provide feedback that sessions are fun and they are enthusiastic about continuing – often they are surprised that maths sessions can be enjoyable. Exam prep strategies and essential skills needed to succeed in exams will also be discussed, as well as addressing common challenge areas for students during exams.

- Pre-school, primary school and high school level maths (including General and Methods).
- Adult learners: University preparation pathways and LANTITE Tutoring

~Availability~
Weekdays

Year 5 - 6 Extension Students: Group Tutoring (covering high school maths content) currently running on Sunday 10am - 11am.

~Timezone~
All times listed are in QLD time (AEST) year round. For students attending from NSW, TAS and VIC, please add one hour to the listed time during term 1 and term 4. All Eastern states are in the same Timezone during term 2 and 3, so timezone difference does not apply during term 2 and term 3.
