About Anna
I hold an M. Phil. in European Literature and a Ph.D. in French and Francophone Studies. I was lucky to be a student in many different universities: University of Cambridge (UK), Duke University, the Pennsylvania State University, Paris IV (Sorbonne), École Normale Supérieure (pensionnaire). I have taught in many different settings and institutions: private lessons, community colleges, state universities, private universities and liberal arts colleges. My 20+ years of teaching have given me a considerable knowledge in teaching methodology, but also the flexibility necessary to modify them according to every class and every individual student's needs. And, of course, learning should be a pleasurable activity: I make sure I know what my students find interesting/funny/stimulating and include something that can pick their interest in every lesson.

We will adjust our lesson plans to your needs and interests. Typically, we start speaking French from the very beginning. Every lesson includes an opening conversation in French , focused grammar activities, vocabulary practice, reading comprehension, and a closing conversation in French to make sure that what we have learned is clear and can make a foundation for our next lesson. Depending on what you need (personal interest, reading literature, upcoming exam, visiting a French-speaking country), we will modify our plans to emphasize the skills that are the most useful for you.
I have taught all levels of language classes, from true beginners to advanced, as well as French literature, French theater, history and society to advanced college students. I have also worked with private adult and high school students.
