About Barclay Ann

I am a writer and mentor with years of experience in writing, editing, and proofreading. I received my MFA from the Bennington Writing Seminars in Writing and Literature, with a focus on Poetry and Nonfiction. Previously I worked for Wiley Publishing as a Copyeditor and Editor before moving to freelance editing and proofreading with well-renowned writers who needed an extra pair of eyes on their work.

I have tutoring and mentoring experience from working at the Appalachian State University Writing Center where I assisted undergraduate and graduate students at various stages of the writing process. I supported students working on projects ranging from research papers to creative assignments, helping them refine ideas and develop confidence in their own writing voice, while elevating their close reading skills. I also worked as an Assistant teacher to a high school creative writing class, leading in-class workshops and facilitating discussions about assigned readings and the work of the students. Whether you need a fresh pair of eyes on a poem or you seek guidance on writing an essay, I'm here to support and guide you through every revision!

About the lesson

I bring a collaborative, precise, patient approach to my lessons. I understand that the vulnerability required to engage deeply in reading and writing can be intimidating. One of my primary goals as a tutor is to help you challenge and recognize your own capacity for authentic expression. The blank page can feel paralyzing, even for the experienced writer, but your capacity for clarity and lyric sensibility is stronger than you often know. I am here to help you reach that part of your creative self more confidently and concisely.
