About Matthew

Hello, I'm Matthew, an English tutor with over three years of experience and (hopefully) the tutor you'll choose to help you achieve those top grades!

In our lessons I'll be pushing you to develop your confidence and originality. English can be one of the most enjoyable subjects if you find the right approach, and I'll make sure that I can help you find (and maintain) your enthusiasm.

I have three years of private tutoring experience, with over 800 hours recorded and numerous students achieving top grades. I have experience teaching children with ADHD and Autism - my patience, care and attentiveness helps to bring those students into positions of confidence.

GCSE Experience: AQA, Edexcel, WJEC,/Eduqas, AQA iGCSE
A-Level Experience: AQA, Edexcel, OCR

I also offer in-person tutoring, though my rates increase. I am London based, (Kings Cross) happy to travel within reason, or meet in a Cafe.

About the lesson

Everyone has their own learning style, and so I’ll tailor each of my lessons to your exact needs. English is a subject that requires both excellent understanding and precise exam technique; through my enthusiasm and dedication I will ensure that you master both those skills, and get the top grades you deserve!

The lesson:
Each of my lessons is an hour long and organised around you and your commitments. I have flexible availability. I typically run the session as follows:

1. 5 minute check in - this gives you the opportunity to share some of the aspects of the exam you have struggled with this week.
2. 10 minute homework analysis - an opportunity to see what works and what doesn't in the homework (writing) task I set each week. This allows us to track progress weekly.
3. 35 minutes of content - this varies and depends on you. Often it is writing and structural exercise drills, but can also be things like 'how to integrate context', or going through exemplars etc.
4. 5 minute recap and homework setting.

His biggest asset for me is his ability to instill confidence while being tactful and incisive, a rare blend that I don't find is as prominent among my school teachers!
