About Archie
Teaching guitar became the best part of my week because the process of translating complex musical ideas into simple concepts is remarkably grounding. My Bachelor of Fine Arts from USC Thornton taught me the theory behind the music, but 13 years of gigging in blues and rock bands provided the real context for how these instruments actually function. Starting on guitar at age 4 gave me a lifelong perspective on the instrument that helps me relate to adults picking up the neck for the first time.

Do you find yourself caught in the trap of repeating the same pentatonic patterns without ever hearing the music you actually want to play? I focus on breaking that cycle by introducing rhythm guitar concepts and tuning maintenance that turn a confusing fretboard into a familiar landscape.
Because I spent 13 years playing in bands, I emphasize how these techniques fit into a real song structure rather than just isolated exercises. Grade exam prep is available for those who want a formal goal, but I prefer building a foundation based on your specific musical tastes.
I draw on my USC training to clarify the mechanics of your playing style while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and approachable. We will verify your gear is ready to play and then focus on making your rhythm feel solid and natural. You will develop a clearer understanding of your instrument through direct feedback and consistent practice.
