About Kimberly

I’m an experienced educator with 17 years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree in Science Education. I specialize in helping elementary and middle school students build confidence and understanding in all academic subjects through personalized, engaging instruction. My approach combines strong subject knowledge with patience, encouragement, and strategies tailored to each student’s individual learning needs. I believe effective tutoring goes beyond completing assignments—it helps students develop the skills, confidence, and independence to become successful learners.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I focus on helping students understand why something works, not simply memorize an answer. With 17 years of classroom teaching experience and a master’s degree in Science Education, I use a patient, encouraging, and individualized approach that meets students where they are academically and builds their confidence as learners.
I adapt my instruction to each student’s needs, learning style, and goals. I break complex concepts into manageable pieces, use multiple ways of explaining ideas, and connect academic content to real-world examples whenever possible. I use questioning, modeling, guided practice, visual representations, hands-on activities, and opportunities for students to explain their thinking. I also have experience supporting students with learning differences and can adapt instruction to help students access challenging material.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in to identify what the student understands and where they are struggling. We then establish a specific goal for the session and work through the concept using explanation, examples, and guided practice. I gradually shift responsibility to the student so they can demonstrate their understanding independently. We finish by reviewing what they learned, identifying any remaining questions, and establishing a strategy for continuing their progress.
What sets me apart is my combination of extensive classroom experience, strong science content knowledge, and a genuine understanding of how students learn. I don't believe students struggle simply because they aren't trying hard enough. Sometimes they need a concept presented differently, more time to process it, or a connection that makes the material meaningful. My goal is to help students not only succeed academically, but also become more confident and independent learners.
I primarily work with elementary and middle school students, particularly students in grades 4–8 who need support in math, reading, and writing, science, environmental science, Earth science, biology, physical science, chemistry, geology, or general academic skills. I also provide homework support, study skills, scientific writing, and individualized academic support for students with diverse learning needs. My experience as a classroom teacher allows me to work effectively with students who need additional explanation, reinforcement, organization, or a different approach to learning.
