About Chantel

"Playing piano started as an obsession that eventually led me to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music for an MMus. Honestly, I sometimes find it hard to separate my life as a performer from my life as an instructor. During 9 years of teaching in Washington DC, I have coached students ranging from college hopefuls to adults starting fresh.

My focus remains on the fundamentals that define a player, specifically hand independence, pedaling technique, and proper posture. I emphasize hand position, accompaniment skills, and nuanced dynamics alongside expression. Seeing a student finally balance these technical demands while finding their own musical voice is the part I find most rewarding."

"Stepping into your first session requires a mindset focused on the physical realities of the instrument. You will notice immediately that I treat the practice room like a concert stage, applying the same rigor I use for my own performances.

Since graduating with my MMus, I have refined an approach that prioritizes precision and intentionality in every movement. We utilize 8 years of experience to ensure your technical base is solid before moving toward complex repertoire. My background at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music informs how I break down difficult passages for you. Watching those moments of clarity during a difficult practice session is truly the most satisfying part of this work."
