About Simranjeet

Well, in a few words: Targeted, efficient, bespoke and relaxed.
I teach lessons that are truly tailor made to my student. The way I teach will be informed by them and their ability, the way I structure my questions, the way I might even ask the questions, are all driven by that ability, thinking and understanding. I aim to do much more than just increase grades however. I aim to inspire, increase confidence and show that my subjects are something that everyone can do ( by explaining them in a simple way). I aim to help students over the long term by also discussing revision strategies and memory aids to ensure that topics covered in sessions will remain fresh and exam ready.

My philosophy of education is that all students are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. I desire to create an atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. Therefore, I will provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take risks.
My goal is to have my students think outside the box, critique the everyday assumptions they take for granted and leave my classes with more questions than answers. I develop learning environments with multiple workstations where students can work in groups to solve problems.
I firmly believe higher education is about going beyond content mastery. I work hard to create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking and problem-solving. To become engaged members of society, all students need to understand not only the facts presented in books and lectures but the questions they need to ask based on the information they learn. I expect students to become self-directed learners, engaging their natural curiosity about the material presented and taking that curiosity to the next level.
To accomplish this, I present information in the most compelling way possible - often through interactive teaching aids and experiential learning opportunities. I bring real-world examples in the form of professionals from the field of study. At the beginning of each semester, I explain that I expect students to take an active role in their learning, asking questions and going beyond the material presented in class. I give bonus points for class participation, keeping track of which students ask questions or offer new ideas. As part of the final project in most classes, I ask students to present a problem and provide a novel solution for that problem which requires self-directed research and putting their work into a format others can understand.
In addition to keeping track of student participation, I assess content mastery using traditional examinations. However, I also include an essay question that assesses students' ability to think beyond their given information. I expect them to take an active role in learning, and I judge their final project with that in mind.
