About Laura
My entire career has been rooted in the belief in each person to thrive and be independent. I am highly relational, as well, and believe we cannot do our best work without having a positive, professional relationship. While each person requires a different personalized approach, I know what research has proven to "work" for human learning and development in general and use this knowledge to create successful learning experiences for each student. I will always act with integrity, honesty and in affirmation of who you are what what you bring to each lesson. I will meet you where you are in your learning/development and help you move forward in the direction of your goals. Finally, if I'm not the best-fit tutor for you, I will be honest in that assessment; again, your long-term success is always my goal whether with my support of that of another tutor.

Goal-setting and metacognition are critical to your long-term success at every stage of your development. We will set goals, track your progress, and aim for independent, self-initiation of strategies that work for you. Typical lesson: warm-up/review of previous lesson/skills/strategies, direct instruction and/or inquiry-based exploration with new content/skills/strategies (depending on the lesson and individual), supported and independent practice. We close with a summary of the lesson and goal(s) for independent work between sessions. We also have fun. I believe that each person CAN and WILL be successful meeting goals.
