About Justin

Hi! I'm Justin, a first-year Master of Artificial Intelligence student at the University of Auckland. I have a strong academic background in mathematics, science, and computer science, along with experience tutoring university students. I believe every student can succeed with the right guidance and teaching approach. My lessons are tailored to each student's learning style, focusing on building understanding rather than memorization. Whether you're looking to improve your grades, prepare for exams, or strengthen your confidence in Maths or Science, I'm committed to making learning enjoyable, effective, and rewarding.

About the lesson

My approach to private tutoring is centered on understanding each student’s current ability, learning style, and academic goals. In the first lesson, I would identify the student’s strengths, knowledge gaps, and areas of difficulty through discussion, example questions, and a review of their recent schoolwork. I would then develop a personalized learning plan that aligns with their school curriculum and focuses on the topics where they need the most support.

During lessons, I would explain concepts clearly and step by step, using examples that match the student’s level. Rather than simply giving answers, I would guide students through the reasoning process so they understand why a method works and can apply it independently. For mathematics and science subjects, I would combine explanation with worked examples, practice questions, and real-world applications to make difficult ideas easier to understand.

I would also regularly review previous material to strengthen long-term understanding and prevent students from forgetting key concepts. Lessons would include a balance of foundational knowledge, current school topics, and exam-style practice where appropriate. I would adjust the pace of each lesson based on the student’s progress and provide additional support when a topic requires more time.

My goal is not only to improve grades, but also to help students become more confident and independent learners. I would provide constructive feedback, acknowledge improvement, and encourage students to ask questions without feeling embarrassed. Where appropriate, I would also provide short homework tasks and communicate progress with parents so that everyone has a clear understanding of the student’s development.
