About Aman

Hello, my name is Aman and I am a Year 13 student studying A level Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I enjoy practical problem solving and building projects which is what motivates my ambition to study engineering at university.

I have always been particularly interested in understanding the deeper reasoning behind mathematics and physics. Rather than just memorising methods I enjoy exploring why concepts work and how they apply to real systems. This interest has led me to explore topics beyond the classroom including areas of physics such as relativity and emerging fields like quantum computing.

As a tutor I aim to pass on this curiosity while helping students build confidence with the fundamentals. Having recently gone through GCSEs myself I understand the challenges students face and how to approach exams effectively. My goal is to help students develop both strong understanding and the problem-solving skills needed to succeed and to hopefully achieve that grade 9.

About the lesson

I begin lessons with a short set of diagnostic questions to understand the student’s current ability across different topics and identify any areas of weakness or concern. Once these are clear we focus on addressing these gaps. I explain the intuition behind different types of problems and demonstrate clear methods before guiding the student as they attempt similar questions themselves, offering support where needed to help them develop independent problem-solving skills.

Alongside content understanding I place strong emphasis on exam technique. I share practical strategies that helped me perform well in GCSE and A level mathematics so students learn how to approach questions efficiently and avoid common mistakes.

Weekly homework is set and carefully marked to reinforce the material covered in lessons. We then use this work at the start of the next session to address misunderstandings and consolidate learning.

My overall approach is to gradually stretch students slightly beyond standard GCSE difficulty once they are comfortable. I aim to train students to “run 110 metres for a 100 metre race”, so that when they face the actual exam, the questions feel manageable and their problem-solving skills are stronger than what the GCSE specification demands. This also prepares them well for future study at A level and beyond.
