About Charlotte

I am a Brooklyn-based writer, artist, and musician with a Yale University bachelor's degree in English and Creative writing. My sessions are tailored to the needs and desires of my students—whether your goal is to improve academic writing skills, flesh out a personal passion project, or write a compelling personal statement, I will aid you or your child in clarifying language, structure, and concept with the aim of creating work that is intellectually rigorous, expressive, and empowering. I love working with both children and adults, and hope to make your writing process not only a means to an end but an act of enrichment that brings you inspiration, confidence, and flow. In addition to my studies, I have worked as an editor for multiple publications and as an instructor for writing workshops, and have received multiple fellowships, awards, and honors for my writing. I have years of experience working with and caring for children, and I have younger siblings and many younger cousins whom I have advised throughout their elementary, high school, and college processes. I’m intimately familiar with the academic and personal ins and outs of these life phases, and through my instruction I also hope to serve as a figure of support, creating an environment where students feel at ease and thrive.

About the lesson

In my teaching I seek to locate and nurture students’ natural strengths as well as strengthening their areas of struggle. I adapt my lessons to each individual’s learning style and attune to what excites and challenges them. This is different for everyone—my lesson structure varies on a case-by-case basis and is dependent on our area of focus. In some cases I may ask a student to send me a draft of their work in advance so that we can focus entirely on editing during our session, and in other cases we may read the work together and workshop as we go. I can help students with brainstorming, outlining, and creating a timeline for completing their work. I can provide them with writing prompts and exercises and support them in developing their voice as well as their syntax. I can also assist students with critical reading and writing, helping them to comprehend and analyze a text. In our sessions we can work together on anything from basic homework assignments to large-scale writing projects. My goal is to help you achieve yours! When working remotely, I meet with students via Zoom, and we work together on writing via screen sharing and Google Docs.
