About Cora
With over 7 years of teaching experience and a BA in Music Theory, I specialise in guiding adult learners through violin study. My focus is on adult beginners and those who are returning to the instrument after a break. I believe the violin should be fun, flexible, and expressive. That’s why I centre my teaching on genres like jazz, blues, folk, worship, and light classical. Improvisation plays a big role in lessons, but I introduce it in simple, manageable steps. I also provide easy exercises to develop technique without stress. Ergonomic posture and mindful practice are emphasised to make learning enjoyable and sustainable. Each student is encouraged to learn at their own pace, building confidence as they go. Lessons are personalised to match goals and interests. My approach helps learners feel supported while exploring creative freedom. Progress isn’t rushed—it’s nurtured. Music is a lifelong journey, and I’m here to make it enjoyable. My teaching style centres on systematic sight-reading development. I believe that strong visual-to-finger coordination is essential for violinists. Lessons start with simple exercises, gradually building to complex rhythms and ledger lines. We work carefully on understanding how notes translate quickly into hand positions. This builds a habit of fast, accurate reading. Multi-part scores are included to train ensemble awareness and adaptability. I emphasise rhythm fluency in both simple and compound metres. For Musical Theatre Enthusiasts, this skill ensures quick mastery of audition and rehearsal pieces. For Worship Singers, it brings confidence in navigating group scores with ease. Lessons are structured but always interactive and engaging. I balance technical drills with repertoire chosen to match student goals. Each session provides clear steps for improvement. The goal is simple: to give learners the confidence to play new pieces instantly.
