About Jordyn

I have always loved learning and throughout raising my own children, I have grown to love teaching even more. Throughout my teaching, it allows me to answer questions I never would have thought of on my own. Hearing ideas from my students will help transform the teaching session into a wealth of knowledge and passion for us both. For this, I ask that my students are well-engaged and ask questions for clarity and logic.

I love to make jokes while teaching and will often use real-world examples to help bring the solution to life for them. Throughout my years, I have found that giving students real-life applications to take with them, will spark passion, and therefore improve overall memory without the need of regurgitation or bulk memorization.

Rest assured that when we work together, it is always a place where you are free to ask any questions and discussion will be had that allows you to open your mind to critical thinking.

About the lesson

Teaching is just as much about relationships as is counseling. Through questioning my student, it allows me a better perspective into how they learn. This grants me the opportunity to fine tune my approach, allowing them to understand in a way that suits them best. Throughout the tutoring process, I am asking questions back to the student to ensure full comprehension of a task and subject, rather than regurgitation. One of the manners in which I have found works best, is to ask the student to teach me (in their own words), what I have taught them. My goal as a teacher is to allow the student to outgrow me, where their knowledge grows to a point that necessitates moving onto a more niche part of a subject, with a teacher more tuned to that. My teaching philosophy always remains that my students should have applicable knowledge that translates onto pen and paper, but also into the real world to aid them in life.

I work with a broad range of ages and have experience teaching preschool aged children up to adults in their undergraduate programs. If a task is not suited for my skills or knowledge base, I will not hesitate to refer you to another teacher.

Lessons will typically look like a review of what we learned previously to ensure full understanding before moving onto a new subject matter. Throughout the lesson, I will work on building a foundation from what we have already learned. Brick by brick will we increase your knowledge until you have the confidence to tackle whatever task may come your way.
