About Prashanth

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and subsequently completed my Master's in the same field in India, specializing in physics-related aspects of mechanical systems. Currently, I am pursuing further studies at the University of Alberta, focusing on interdisciplinary research that merges physics principles with mechanical engineering applications. During my Master's program, I had the opportunity to teach fundamental concepts of physics-driven mechanical engineering to undergraduate students, fostering a deep understanding of the subject matter and honing my teaching skills. This experience has greatly enriched my academic journey and solidified my passion for both physics and engineering education.

I believe in an interactive approach to teaching where students are encouraged to actively engage with the material. Rather than simply lecturing, I prompt students to explain concepts in their own words, which helps me identify areas where they may be struggling. By understanding their specific challenges, I can provide targeted explanations and examples to address their needs. This approach fosters a collaborative learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions and participate in discussions, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

My journey with physics and mathematics started early in my high school days when I discovered the joy of teaching. Physics, in particular, was not just a subject for me; it was a fascination that I eagerly shared with my peers. Being able to simplify complex concepts and witness the 'aha' moments in my fellow students sparked a love for teaching that has stayed with me since. This early experience laid the foundation for my academic pursuits and eventual specialization in these subjects during my undergrad and Master's in Mechanical Engineering. Today, as I continue to teach physics and mathematics, that passion from my high school days remains at the core of my approach to education.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

I am passionate about physics and mathematics because they serve as the universal languages of the natural world. These subjects provide a framework to comprehend the underlying principles governing everything around us. The beauty lies in the way mathematical concepts seamlessly translate into the fundamental laws of physics, shaping our understanding of the universe. Witnessing students grasp these connections and experience the thrill of solving intricate problems fuels my passion. Moreover, the continuous evolution and applicability of these subjects in various disciplines inspire me to stay curious and committed to fostering a similar passion in my students.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

Tutoring, for me, is a profoundly rewarding experience for several reasons. Firstly, the joy of witnessing a student grasp a challenging concept and seeing their confidence grow is immensely fulfilling. The one-on-one interaction allows for personalized attention, enabling me to tailor my approach to each student's unique learning style, fostering a deeper understanding. Being a "Superprof" means not only imparting knowledge but also inspiring a genuine love for the subject. I aim to make learning enjoyable and relatable, creating an environment where questions are encouraged, and mistakes are viewed as valuable learning opportunities. The satisfaction of guiding students to unlock their full potential and instilling in them a lifelong curiosity for physics and mathematics is what sets me apart as a "Superprof."
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

HC Verma's "Concepts of Physics" has been a paramount influence on my teaching philosophy. His exemplary ability to present complex physics concepts in a clear and engaging manner has profoundly shaped my approach to teaching physics. In the realm of mathematics, my gratitude extends to my childhood mathematics teacher, Ramana. His exceptional talent for making mathematics enjoyable and accessible left an indelible mark on my academic journey. Ramana's dedication to fostering a love for the subject, coupled with his knack for demystifying intricate problems, not only led to my success in mathematics but also instilled in me a lasting enjoyment of the subject. Both HC Verma and Ramana have played pivotal roles in shaping my approach to physics and mathematics. I am committed to channeling their passion, clarity, and dedication to fostering a deep understanding of these subjects in my own teaching journey.
  • What are your keys to success?

My unwavering passion for physics and mathematics serves as the driving force behind my commitment to these subjects. This enthusiasm not only fuels my continuous learning but also motivates me to stay updated on the latest advancements, ensuring that I bring the most relevant and exciting information to my students. Adaptability is a key aspect of my teaching philosophy. Understanding that each student learns uniquely, I tailor my teaching methods to cater to individual needs. This personalized approach ensures that every student receives the support they need, fostering a more effective and engaging learning experience. Patience is a cornerstone of my teaching style. I recognize the importance of allowing students the time to absorb information and develop their understanding. This patient approach enables me to provide comprehensive explanations and address any doubts or questions with clarity. Effective communication is crucial in making complex subjects accessible. I break down intricate concepts into manageable parts, creating an environment where questions are encouraged, and understanding is prioritized. This clear communication fosters a positive learning atmosphere. Continuous improvement is a principle I hold dear. Each teaching experience is viewed as an opportunity for growth. I actively seek feedback from students and engage in self-reflection to refine my teaching methods continually. This commitment to improvement ensures that I evolve as an educator, delivering the best possible learning outcomes.
