About Mira
Flute lessons in adulthood are more than just a hobby—they’re an opportunity to reconnect with creativity and explore a new way of expressing yourself. My studio welcomes adults over 50 who are curious, thoughtful, and ready to learn in an environment that’s tailored specifically to their pace and goals. Whether you played another instrument long ago or have never read a note of music, you’re in the right place. My teaching style is adaptive and grounded in encouragement. We begin with foundational techniques like posture, breath control, and tone, but we also spend time exploring music that resonates with your interests. That might mean folk songs, classical pieces, meditative melodies, or even music you remember from childhood. I take pride in offering lessons that feel productive but never rushed—where mistakes are part of the process and curiosity leads the way. I also integrate helpful tools like slow-down audio, practice calendars, and reflection sheets that make progress visible and satisfying. Every week, we build not just skills, but confidence and enjoyment. It’s never too late to learn something new, and I would be honored to be part of your journey into the world of music.

My flute teaching philosophy centers on the profound connection between music and storytelling, especially for adult learners seeking a deeper engagement with the art form. I believe that music is not simply a collection of notes and rhythms, but a powerful language capable of conveying a vast range of emotions, ideas, and narratives. I encourage my students to approach each piece of music as a story waiting to be told, and to develop their playing as a means of bringing that story to life. I begin by exploring the historical and cultural context of the music. We delve into the lives of the composers, the social and political forces that shaped their work, and the traditions and styles that influenced their musical language.
Students learn to see music as a product of its time, imbued with the ideas and experiences of its creators. This understanding provides a rich foundation for interpretation, allowing students to connect with the music on a deeper level. I emphasize the importance of understanding the structure and form of a piece of music. We analyze the melodic contours, harmonic progressions, and rhythmic patterns, not as abstract concepts, but as elements that contribute to the overall narrative arc. Students learn to identify the main themes, the development of musical ideas, and the climaxes and resolutions that give the music its shape and direction.
