About Kemp
I grew up in a home where British Sign Language wasn't a lesson — it was life. Both of my parents are Deaf, and BSL was how I laughed with them, argued with them, and told them about my day. It's woven into who I am.
Teaching BSL feels like a natural extension of that. I want to share something that has always been deeply personal to me, while helping more people find a way into the Deaf community — a community that has shaped me entirely.
But it's more than that. There are people out there who have Deaf family members, friends, or colleagues and feel frustrated that they can't fully connect with them. I know what it means to someone when you make the effort to communicate in their language. I've seen it my whole life. That's what I want to give my students — not just signs, but the ability to genuinely connect.
So whether you're learning for a loved one, for work, or simply out of curiosity, I'll bring real lived experience to every lesson, and I'll care about your progress the way I care about this language — personally.

My lessons are tailored to you. We start from where you are — no rushing. I create a comfortable, judgement-free space where you can learn at your own pace and feel confident expressing where you're finding things difficult.
Lessons are charged by the hour, with a maximum of 2 hours per session (longer sessions available if booked in advance).
What makes me different is simple: I didn't pick up British Sign Language as a hobby or career choice. I learnt it as a child because I had to — it was how I communicated with my parents. That lived experience means you're learning from someone for whom BSL is natural and deeply personal, not just a qualification on a wall.
I'll make sure your progress is steady, consistent, and built around you — moving at a pace that challenges you without overwhelming you.
And because I'm not a certified interpreter, my rates reflect that at just £20 per hour — so you get genuine, fluent, experience-led teaching without the premium price tag.
