About Zaid
Hey everyone! My name is Zaid. I am 20 years old and originally from Jordan. I study Industrial Engineering at Georgia Tech and growing up, mathematics and of course PE were my favorite subjects at school. Imagine your teacher at school gives you 5 numbers and tells you to add them up? Well, if it was 1+2+3+4+5 I'm sure all of you know the answer. But what if the numbers started getting bigger and bigger, well that becomes more and more of a problem. However, I am here to help! I can help you become faster and better at performing the four basic mathematical operations. This would take your foundational understanding of mathematics to a whole new level, and it is also quite impressive. I look forward to talking to you all!

1. I will teach students how to become faster with mental arithmetic using the abacus. The abacus is a calculating instrument consisting of beads that slide against wires set in a wooden frame, which represent decimal places or digits.
2. The end goal is to become highly skilled with using the abacus and to posses the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication & division mentally by picturing the abacus & performing operations.
3. I am already highly proficient with using the abacus. I won two national listening competitions in Jordan for mental arithmetic. I also travelled to Malaysia to participate in an international UCMAS (Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System) competition and placed among the 3rd runners up.
4. A typical lesson includes: Introduction and explaining of lesson objectives, warm up activity, explanation of any concepts (if needed), visual practice with abacus, visual practice without abacus, listening practice with abacus, listening practice without abacus, homework assignment.
5. Lessons are open for anyone who wants to improve their mental arithmetic ability and speed of solving algebra. Students of younger age are highly encouraged (elementary school, middle school).
