About Jane

Hello! My name is Ms. Jane Elieff and I am a certified elementary school teacher who is eager to help your child with reading and math. I strive to provide students with a solid foundation for lifelong learning. I am dedicated to remaining flexible, ensuring that every child’s learning styles and abilities are addressed.

Teaching Experience
I have over 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of learning environments, age ranges, and subjects (Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science). I have taught in Self Contained classrooms (all subjects) as well as a Departmentalized Classroom where I specifically taught 5th grade math. I am a certified Elementary Educator and my certification covers all subjects K - 6 which gives me a great range of ages and subjects that I can confidently work with! Throughout my experience, I have honed my communication, creativity, and motivational skills and have consistently sparked improved self-confidence and success in my students. In addition, I also was a member of a professional math committee that met regularly, shared expertise, and worked collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.

Increasing student reading levels on quarterly and standardized reading assessments using effective reading strategies and techniques to enhance reading fluency and comprehension.
Develop positive ways to encourage students to focus and engage in positive classroom behaviors.
Implementing stimulating lessons to engage students’ attention and interest, allowing them to develop a passion for the subject.
Creating lessons to motivate and focus on the needs of each individual student.
Tutoring students in individual and groups in order to assist them to reaching benchmark levels for reading, sight words and spelling.
Utilizing various programs to support students' needs, such as Reading Recovery, Word Study, Guided Reading, Reading/Writing Workshop.
Collecting data at weekly intervals in order to progress monitor students and make informed decisions about student goals and needs.
Ability to remain flexible, ensuring that every child's learning styles and abilities are addressed.
Designing and delivering learning opportunities that implement best practices to increase decoding, comprehension and fluency.
Monitoring student progress through running records, miscue analysis, DRA testing, fluency assessments and anecdotal observations.
Utilizing several teaching methods and techniques to guarantee the solid understanding of concepts introduced and taught.

Teaching Philosophy
I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to the classroom each day. I am very patient, flexible and kind. I encourage my students to ask questions, take risks and overcome the fear of making mistakes as this is part of the learning process. All levels are welcome (we will start from scratch if need be).

About the lesson

During our session, we will spend around 25 minutes reading and discussing a given text (student is welcome to bring their own book or I have lots to choose from). We will focus on comprehension of the text and recalling information. For beginner readers we will focus on decoding and phonic skills. Books and writing topics will be chosen according to the student’s interest and suggestions.
