About Jonathan

Online tutoring for VCE English, English Literature and English Language, plus secondary and primary students building stronger foundations. Many students have lifted their SAC results into the 90%+ range and raised their ATAR within 4 to 6 months.

Specialising in all VCE English units

I'm a qualified English teacher with 15+ years' experience, a BA in Education, a Cert IV in TESOL, and postgraduate studies in Creative Writing and Literature at Swinburne. I've taught in top Melbourne schools and across Australia, Germany and the UK. I love the moment writing clicks for a student, when a thesis statement finally holds, or a novel stops being homework and starts being something they actually want to talk about.

Weekday afternoons, 4 to 7pm AEST. Spaces fill quickly during term, so include your availability when you get in touch.

Location

Melbourne VCE students, plus secondary (Years 8–10) and primary students Australia-wide. Online only.

About the lesson

My lessons are structured, engaging, and results-driven, designed to help secondary and VCE students build confidence and master key English skills. I tailor each online session to the student’s specific needs, ensuring they develop the critical thinking, analytical writing, and exam techniques required to excel.

Please NOTE: Superprof automatically labels the first session as a “free lesson,” but I do not offer free tutoring sessions. What I provide is a 20-minute free consultation where I meet the student, discuss their goals, strengths and weaknesses, and outline how our lessons will work. All actual tutoring sessions are paid.

How I Teach

I take a student-focused approach, adapting lessons to suit different learning styles. My teaching method balances practical strategies with in-depth analysis, helping students:

* Master essay writing – Improve structure, clarity, and sophistication across analytical, comparative, and persuasive essays.

* Develop deeper text analysis skills – Learn to engage with themes, characters, and literary techniques in a way that enhances both critical thinking and exam performance.

* Strengthen grammar and expression – Refine sentence structure, word choice, and fluency to elevate written responses.

* Prepare effectively for SACs and exams – Build strong essay frameworks, practise timed responses, and develop strategies to meet VCAA criteria.

Lessons are interactive and discussion-based, encouraging students to think independently while receiving real-time feedback on their work. I use official VCE guides such as Insight, including Google Apps and other online tools like Notion and Kami to ensure students get structured, practical support that directly applies to their assessments.

• Length: 1 hour per session
• Level: Secondary and VCE students
• Subjects: VCE English, Literature, and English Language

With over 15 years of experience, a Bachelor of Education, and postgraduate studies in Literature, I bring both expertise and passion to every session. My goal is to help students not only improve their grades but also develop a lifelong appreciation for language and literature.
