About Rachel
Hello and welcome! I just graduated from UVA, where I studied neuroscience and was part of the Distinguished Majors Program. I spent the last few years doing research and working closely with students as a Peer Academic Coach and a TA for biology classes. I really love science and sharing that excitement with others, but I also know how hard it can be when things just aren’t clicking. My goal is to make things feel less overwhelming and help you build confidence in the material at your own pace.

As a tutor, I focus on making complex science topics feel approachable and intuitive. I tailor each lesson to the student’s learning style, whether that means breaking down tough concepts with real-world examples, creating visual aids, or guiding through practice problems step by step. I aim to build confidence by encouraging questions and reinforcing core ideas in a clear and supportive way.
A typical session starts with a quick check-in to identify where the student is struggling, followed by targeted explanation and problem-solving together. I like to end with a brief review and leave students with a couple of key takeaways or study tips to carry forward.
What sets me apart is my focus on meeting students where they are and helping them build both understanding and confidence. I care about creating a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, staying curious, and finding study habits that actually work for them. My goal is always to support the whole student, not just the material in front of them.
These lessons are ideal for students taking biology or chemistry at the high school or college level. This includes students preparing for AP exams, college intro courses, or pre-health tracks. I also enjoy helping students build effective study strategies that work specifically for science classes. My approach is supportive, flexible, and focused on helping you feel more confident in class.
