About Sebastián

More than an engineer, I'm passionate about teaching.

Although my background is in Computer Science Engineering (USM) and I work as a Data Scientist, I discovered that my true calling is in the classroom. For me, teaching isn't a "side job"; it's my purpose. Every time I help a student grasp a concept they thought was impossible, I feel immense personal satisfaction.

My Philosophy: "The teacher at the service of the student." I firmly believe that the teacher's role is to serve the student, not the other way around. This means I'm flexible and adapt to your learning style, but it also means I'll push you to your limits because I believe in your potential.

What can you expect from me?

Purposeful Challenge: I'll be very honest: my exercises are intentionally difficult. I'm not looking for you to memorize to pass (grades are secondary); I'm looking to develop your critical and analytical thinking. I want to push your intellectual boundaries so that the real exam seems easy in comparison.

Understanding of Grades: I don't care about your past grades or medals; what matters to me is that you understand. If I see that you've mastered the material but are struggling on exams due to nerves or technique, I'll work tirelessly with you to address that. I never disregard a student's effort.

Real-World Context: I'll never teach you something "just because." I'll always explain the reasons behind it and its relevance to real-life and professional situations.

Dialogue and Respect: My classes aren't monologues. I'll encourage you to participate, debate, and ask questions. If we have different opinions, I'll teach you to defend yours with arguments. There are no punishments for making mistakes here, only lessons for improvement.

My Promise: I love to study and learn (I'm a lifelong student), and I greatly enjoy the challenge of explaining complex concepts in a simple way. If you put in the effort, I'll dedicate 100% of my energy and patience to help you achieve your goals.

About the lesson

Looking to learn to program for real, not just copy code?

My methodology is based on "Learning by Doing." As a Computer Science Engineer and Data Scientist with years of experience in large-scale mining (BHP, Tellus Mining), I won't teach you boring theory; I'll show you how these tools are used in the real world.

What are my classes like?
- Initial Assessment: We'll evaluate your current level and define your goal (Passing a difficult course? Automating your work? Changing careers?).
- Practical Approach: We'll work with real datasets and business cases. If you're an engineering student, we'll solve exam-style problems. If you're working, we'll automate your Excel spreadsheets using Python.
- Modern Tools: You'll learn the technology stack that companies demand today: Python (Pandas, NumPy), SQL for databases, and Power BI for visualization.
