About Vivien

Hello! I’m Vivien, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Development Communication from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). My background has given me strong skills in communication, writing, and understanding how to make ideas clear and accessible to different audiences.
I am a patient, approachable, and encouraging tutor who believes that learning a language should feel comfortable and practical. I understand that speaking a new language can feel intimidating, so I create a supportive environment where students can practice without worrying about making mistakes.
Whether you are completely new to Tagalog or simply want to become more confident in everyday conversations, I will tailor our lessons to your goals, level, and learning pace. I can help you build your vocabulary, improve your pronunciation, understand common Filipino expressions, and practice natural conversations used in everyday situations.
As a Development Communication graduate, I am especially passionate about making communication easier to understand and more meaningful. I look forward to helping you discover Tagalog in a fun, practical, and engaging way!

About the lesson

My approach to teaching Tagalog is practical, conversational, and learner-centered. As a graduate of Development Communication from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, I understand the importance of adapting messages to different audiences and making information clear, relatable, and easy to understand. I apply the same principle when teaching language.
My lessons focus on building confidence in using Tagalog in real-life situations rather than relying solely on memorization. I use guided conversations, vocabulary building, pronunciation practice, situational exercises, short reading activities, and simple writing exercises. I adjust my teaching style according to the learner’s goals, pace, and current level.
A typical lesson begins with a short review of previous lessons, followed by an introduction to new vocabulary or expressions. We then practice these through examples and guided conversation. The learner will have opportunities to use the language in practical situations such as introducing themselves, ordering food, asking for directions, making small talk, or communicating in everyday Filipino settings. Each lesson ends with a brief recap and practice activity to reinforce what was learned.
What sets me apart is my background in Development Communication. I am trained to understand audiences and communicate ideas in ways that are appropriate, engaging, and accessible. I can also explain not only what a Filipino expression means, but also when and how it is naturally used in conversation, including differences between formal and casual Tagalog.
My lessons are suitable for beginners, intermediate learners, students, foreign learners, and anyone who wants to improve their Tagalog for everyday communication. Whether the goal is to learn basic Filipino, communicate more confidently with Filipino friends or colleagues, prepare for travel, or better understand Filipino culture and conversations, I can tailor the lessons to the learner’s specific needs and goals.
My goal is to create a comfortable learning environment where students can make mistakes, ask questions, practice freely, and gradually become more confident Tagalog speakers.
