About William

I'm currently an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto studying mathematics. I've completed the full first-year calculus sequence (MAT135/136) and Linear Algebra (MAT223) with strong results — including 99% in Linear Algebra and 92% in Calculus II — along with an introduction to statistics and data science (STA130).

What makes me a good tutor isn't just grades, though. It's that I went through the exact same Ontario high school math curriculum just a couple of years ago. I still remember which topics confused me and my classmates, where the common traps are in tests, and what finally made each concept click. Older tutors know the material; I also remember what it feels like to learn it.

I genuinely enjoy explaining things. Friends and classmates often come to me before exams because I'm patient and I don't make anyone feel bad for asking "basic" questions — in my experience, the "basic" questions are usually the most important ones.

Outside of math, I'm interested in finance and data analysis, so for senior students I can also show how the math they're learning actually gets used in the real world — which helps a lot with motivation.

About the lesson

Hi! I'm a math student at the University of Toronto. I recently completed university-level Calculus and Linear Algebra with top grades, which means the math your child is learning right now is fresh in my mind — I remember exactly which concepts feel confusing and why.

I tutor Ontario high school math from Grade 9 to 12 fully online, including MPM2D, MCR3U, MHF4U (Advanced Functions), MCV4U (Calculus & Vectors), and MDM4U (Data Management), as well as first-year university calculus.

My approach: I don't just show students the steps — I make sure they understand why each step works. Before each session I review what your child is covering in class, and I teach with their actual curriculum, homework, and upcoming tests in mind. You'll get a short summary after every lesson so you know exactly what we worked on.

Online lessons are live and interactive — I use a shared digital whiteboard where the student and I can both write and solve problems together in real time, and every lesson's notes are saved so your child can review them anytime. All you need is a laptop or tablet.

I speak fluent English and Mandarin.
