About Alfie

As a current Mathematics undergraduate at a top UK university, the pressures of GCSE and A-Level exams are still fresh in my mind. My tutoring is built around one goal: helping you find that 'aha!' moment where a topic finally clicks into place. I don't just teach you formulae; I work with you to demystify tricky problems, building the core confidence and problem-solving skills you need to walk into your exams feeling prepared and in control.

About the lesson

My tutoring philosophy is built on the belief that any student can achieve their goals with the right support, tailored to their individual learning style. I create a positive and patient learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building genuine confidence in their abilities. My method is structured to ensure consistent progress and deep understanding. In our first session, I focus on diagnosing the student's specific needs and setting clear, achievable goals. From there, lessons are highly interactive and concept-led. We break down complex topics into simple, manageable steps, using an interactive online whiteboard to work through problems together in real-time before tackling a wide range of questions and past paper examples. All lessons are conducted online, offering complete flexibility. I find that 60-minute sessions work best for focused learning, with 90 minutes available for older A-Level students needing to cover topics in greater depth. While I am not a university graduate, my expertise comes from excelling in these exact subjects and my passion for helping others do the same. I achieved top grades in A-Level Maths, Further Maths, and Physics, so I know the curriculum, exam techniques, and common pitfalls inside-out. I have been tutoring students since completing my own GCSEs, giving me extensive and relevant experience. I'm particularly proud of helping students transform their relationship with a subject; for instance, I guided one student from consistently failing Maths to enjoying the subject and ultimately achieving a Grade 5 in her GCSEs. My lessons are specifically designed for: - A-Level students studying Maths, Physics, and Further Maths. - GCSE students who need support to secure a top grade in Maths and Physics. I specialise in helping students build the robust understanding required for the toughest questions, making my sessions ideal for anyone aiming for A or A* grades.
