About Sile

Hello, my name is Sile and I'm from Houston, Texas. I've been lucky to teach on two different continents! I've taught ESL classes in New York City and I've taught classes like:
English Speaking and Listening
English Pronunciation and Speech
Engineering English
Western Society and Culture
at a university in Chongqing, China. I also have experience tutoring students for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.
Now all the business items are out of the way, I'd like to share some things I enjoy outside of teaching. I enjoy sports like American Football, Basketball, and MMA. I like to exercise to keep my waist in check and thoroughly enjoy listening to music of almost any genre. I am an avid reader and spend too much time reading novels, e-books, and comics. Lastly, I enjoy watching movies, specifically in the cinema and always try to cut down on my ever-growing list of movies to watch. Well, thank you for reading this description and I hope you continue to have a great day.

Good day everyone! Here is a quick summary of my engaging lessons. I believe strongly in two main teaching methods. The CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) method and the PPP Method-Presentation, Practice, and Production. Essentially in our lessons, I will cultivate an atmosphere where you are comfortable and willing to engage in English. Our lessons will be built with your interest in mind to ensure a constant flow of eliciting and cueing, with you and I, to practice and learn.

Typical Unit Plan: The way my brain works I like to think of tutoring as a road map. So for instance let's imagine I was teaching an ESL class with a student that would last a month.
The basic template would be as follows:
I would label and name the unit and incorporate a mix of Speaking, Grammar, Pronunciation/Listening, and Writing/Reading activities. With a more involved Activity towards the end of the Unit.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Unit 5 Sports Around the World
Objective:
1. Students will be able to describe sports and fitness activities using collocations with “do, go, and play”.
2. Students will be able to listen for the new sports vocabulary words and produce specific information in a conversation about exercise.
Snapshot: Exercise designed for students to begin speaking English with easier questions that incorporate their own culture and interests. Students will go through these questions with a partner, answering back and forth.
Matching: Students will work with partners to decide which English definition matches the specific sport. Students will then discuss once finished if they would either participate in these sports or just view from the sideline.
Presentation about Collocation from Tutor
Listening: Students will listen to a pre-recorded audio from English speakers using collocations. After listening a few times students will discuss what was heard.
Creation: Students will create a short story including the characters from the audio, incorporating sports activities they could all do together.
Homework Explanation
Exit Ticket: Write down one thing you learned from this lesson and one question you have about this lesson.
Depending on time constraints and student learning needs activities can be swapped, added, or removed.

These lessons are for any student who wants to become proficient in English. Especially for those adult students who desire to improve their English speaking and listening skills. I've worked with students at the poor/basic English level and with advanced students. My lessons are designed for high school, college, and adult learners. So if you're looking for ESL or IELTS tutoring I would love to be of help.
