About Yani

Hi, I’m Yani.

I hold Bachelor's degrees in Environmental Science and Biomedical Science and have worked professionally as an Environmental, Aquatic and Marine Scientist. Alongside my scientific career, I have experience as a University Tutor, teaching classes, assisting students in laboratory sessions, marking assessments, and providing individual academic support.

More recently, I have been working as a ski instructor in New Zealand, further developing my communication, coaching, and mentoring skills while working with people of all ages and abilities. These experiences have reinforced my passion for education and helping others build confidence as they learn new skills.

I have always been fascinated by mathematics, biology, chemistry, environmental science, and the natural world. Through my studies, professional career, and teaching experience, I have developed a strong understanding of how to explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging way.

I am passionate about helping students succeed and believe that learning is most enjoyable when students genuinely understand what they are studying rather than simply memorizing information. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and achieving their academic goals.

Outside of teaching, I live an active lifestyle and spend much of my time surfing, cycling, skiing, hiking, and exploring the outdoors. I enjoy bringing that same curiosity, enthusiasm, and sense of adventure into my lessons.

About the lesson

My lessons begin with getting to know each student as an individual. Understanding their goals, strengths, challenges, and learning style allows me to tailor lessons to their specific needs and create a positive learning environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence.

Together, we identify the areas where they would like support and develop a clear plan to help them achieve their academic goals. Lessons are personalised and may include working through school coursework, preparing for assessments and exams, strengthening foundational knowledge, or extending high-achieving students further.

I use a combination of the student’s own learning materials, carefully selected online resources, and additional practice questions to reinforce concepts and develop problem-solving skills. I also provide recommendations and strategies for independent learning outside of tutoring sessions, helping students build effective study habits and become more confident learners.

I hold Bachelor degrees in Biomedical Science and Environmental Science and currently work as a Marine and Aquatic Scientist. Alongside my professional career, I have experience tutoring high school students across a range of Mathematics and Science subjects and have recently worked as a University Tutor, teaching classes, assisting students in laboratory sessions, marking assessments, and providing individual academic support.

Having been tutored myself throughout high school, I understand the value of clear explanations, patience, encouragement, and personalised guidance. My goal is not only to help students improve academically but also to build their confidence and curiosity for learning.

Lessons are available for students from primary school through to Year 12 and can be adapted to suit a wide range of abilities and learning goals.
