About Ingyu
I am a University of Toronto student majoring in Immunology and Biochemistry, with over four years of tutoring experience working with middle and high school students. Having graduated from an international school and studied AP courses myself, I understand both the academic demands of AP and IB curricula and the challenges students often face when learning advanced subjects in English.
I specialize in AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Chemistry, Pre-Calculus, Algebra, Geometry, and Biology, and I am also able to support students following the IB curriculum. My teaching focuses on building a strong conceptual foundation rather than relying only on memorization or repetitive problem-solving. I help students understand why a method works, recognize common question patterns, and develop clear and efficient approaches that can be applied independently during exams.
For AP Calculus, I place particular emphasis on graph interpretation, conceptual understanding, and FRQ response structure so students learn not only how to reach the correct answer, but also how to present their reasoning in a way that earns full credit. In Chemistry and Biology, I focus on connecting individual concepts into a larger framework so students can handle application-based questions rather than simply memorizing facts.
My online lessons are interactive and student-centered. Students share their screen and keep their camera on during lessons, while I also share my own screen to explain concepts, work through examples, and provide real-time feedback. Lessons can be conducted in either English or Korean depending on the student’s preference.
I adjust the pace and teaching style to each student’s level, weaknesses, and goals. Whether a student is struggling with foundational concepts, making repeated calculation mistakes, having difficulty applying what they have learned, or aiming for a higher AP/IB exam score, I focus on identifying the specific reason they are losing points and building a structured plan to improve both confidence and performance.

Hello, my name is **Ingyu Hwang**, and I am currently studying **Biochemistry and Immunology at the University of Toronto**. Having personally experienced the international school curriculum at KISJ, I have been tutoring international school students in Math and Chemistry in both English and Korean for approximately four years. I have helped students with school coursework, advanced learning, AP/IB exam preparation, and university admissions, and I continue to work with students preparing for university.
Because I also studied in an international school environment, I understand where students often struggle when learning concepts in English and applying them to exams, written responses, and unfamiliar problems. My lessons therefore focus on identifying each student’s current level and recurring mistakes, then connecting **conceptual understanding → problem solving → exam application and written explanation**.
For Math, I teach **IB Mathematics AA/AI SL & HL, AP Calculus AB/BC, Pre-Calculus, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, and Pre-Algebra**. Rather than relying on memorization, I focus on helping students understand why a method works and apply it independently to new problems.
For Chemistry, I teach **AP Chemistry, IB Chemistry SL & HL, and international high school Chemistry**. Lessons emphasize conceptual connections and fundamental principles, followed by practice with calculations, graphs, experimental analysis, and written-response questions.
Parents receive **monthly feedback** summarizing the student’s progress, understanding, strengths, recurring mistakes, areas for improvement, and next learning goals. Lessons are conducted **1-on-1 online through Microsoft Teams or Google Meet** and can be taught in either English or Korean. Tuition and scheduling will be discussed during consultation. :)
