About Matthew
I like to think I'm an outgoing person! I've always enjoyed helping people with maths so I thought I'd have a go at doing so in a more professional environment.
Currently, I study Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Strathclyde. I'm have just finished my third year and I was given a certificate for making it on the Dean's List in my first year which is very similar to SQA Advanced Higher Maths.
I know from first hand experience how scary the pace of a course can be, as well as how much a tutor can help boost the skills and confidence of a student when an exam is approaching. My goal is to make sure that each student I help loses that typical exam stress and instead can walk in the exam hall with their head held high.

I believe the key to teaching any subject one on one is to put yourself in the shoes of the student. Everyone can have trouble learning something new for the first time, so it is very important to be understanding and patient!
My approach to lessons typically depends on what the student wishes to cover, I will briefly observe where they are at with the topic and work with them accordingly. I'll also make sure that many examples are covered in depth, whether they are simple questions to get started or questions from previous exam papers. This is the best way for someone to really understand a topic and prepare for an exam when the time comes.
I aim to provide 1 - 1.5 hour long lessons, this is the optimal time to cover each area of the subject. If the student wishes to contact me for any extra help then they are perfectly able (and ecouraged!) to do so. I will do my best to get back to them as soon as possible.
Depending on how the student is performing, I may set some optional homework questions for them to do. This will allow me to see how they can handle questions on their own, as well as let me give some feedback on how they are coping with what we have covered!
