About Jacob
I have recently attained at First class degree from a Russell Group University,
and am looking to help share the knowledge I've acquired. During my time as an undergraduate, I have had articles accepted for undergraduate journals, and gained some experience teaching philosophy in classroom settings. I would now like to apply this experience and knowledge to help other students too.

As a recent graduate, something I have valued throughout my degree was the empowerment I received from my tutors to ask questions of them, in order to guide my learning. Thus, my lessons will centre on this discursive approach. You are encouraged to ask questions, and through the technique of Socratic questioning, become able of reaching your own conclusions.
Lessons will be adapted to the needs of each individual student. However, lessons generally will begin with a discussion of the aims of the lesson, and an overview of the importance of the topic - why, for instance, is Kantian ethics important, and where does it fit into existing philosophical literature? From there, your current level is used to guide the lesson. If, for example, you have prior knowledge or some experience with the topic, then what knowledge is this, and what gaps do you have?
In any case, the your current opinion on the topic and the reasons you hold it will be the starting point of any discussion. From there, I will raise counterarguments using the material of the topic. This forces both a learning of the material of the topic and a reflection of your own beliefs in light of this. Examining topics in this way means that you not only learn the material of the topic, but form an opinion on it, and crucially, why you have it. To end, we will then discuss any shifts in your opinion on the topic, and why this has happened.
