About Philippe

While my PhD may be in biomechanics, I have gained valuable experience teaching research methods and statistics to social science students. I taught at the University of Ottawa’s Department of Communication and Department of Psychology as well as Saint-Paul University’s School of Counseling, Psychotherapy, and Spirituality. In 12 years, I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses in engineering, biophysical science, and social science to classes of 8 to 90 students. This wide variety of environments has allowed me to refine my teaching and adapt my approach. I believe that as a teacher, my responsibility is to introduce students to the material, to demonstrate its relevance and to stimulate their interest with the hope that they will have the motivation to learn independently.

About the lesson

I teach with energy and enthusiasm and create a classroom environment where students feel supported. I establish from the very first class that I encourage student to ask questions and share their ideas, whether in class or by email. This environment promotes learning and is highly appreciated by students as evidenced by this excerpt from a letter written by a past student:

"I want to thank you for always going beyond what a student expects from a teacher since the first year. Not only did you not need to send me this article, because your responsibility as a teacher was fulfilled after the final exam, but the advice you gave me last year while I was questioning my future at the university have been invaluable and had a wide impact on my academic career."

Perfect! Philippe has a way of breaking things down and explaining them simply using practical applications. I have always struggled with math and number but, his approach determined exactly what I know and what I still need to work on. It is still only the beginning, but his 1-on-1 methods helped me feel more confident in my abilities from the very first lesson.

Working with Leah is wonderful. She is organized, determined and curious; she doesn't shy away from asking great questions.
