About Lauren
I have previous experience of 2 years of high school level biology, chemistry, algebra, and geometry tutoring and 2 years of undergraduate level introductory biology, introductory chemistry, and cell biology experience. In addition to providing private tutoring lessons for students I have spent the last 3 years conducting research in Molecular Biology and Neurobiology labs at the University of Michigan. My students typically get grades within the A to B range and several of my high school students have went on to study at a number of competitive universities.

I am a University of Michigan graduate with a BS in Cell and Molecular Biology. I have many years of tutoring experience in high school biology and chemistry as well as undergraduate college level introductory biology, introductory chemistry, and cell biology. In terms of how I like to arrange my lessons, I first establish an understanding of the student's current knowledge of the topic. I then typically proceed to provide a brief lesson on the topic, followed by visual schematics, metaphors, analogies, hands on applications/demonstrations and practical examples. After the base knowledge has sufficiently been acquired I eventually begin introducing questions that allow the student to think critically about the material to solidify their understanding of the concept. My methodologies include lots of pictures and visual schematics as well as metaphors and real-life analogies to help break seemingly complex topics into simpler and easier to understand processes in order to assist the student in establishing a firm grasp of the topic such that it can be built upon as understanding increases.
