About Maria
Biology is the science that explains who and what we are as living beings. I believe that understanding biology means understanding ourselves and the world around us.
As a University of Kentucky biology graduate with two years of teaching experience in genetics and cell biology, I know firsthand that this subject only becomes hard when it isn't taught with care. I fell in love with biology myself when I finally had instructors who were passionate about it, and that's the experience I want to give every student I work with.

MY TEACHING METHOD
I don't believe in memorization. Biology is a subject built on processes and interconnected concepts, and real understanding comes from seeing how things work together. I rely heavily on diagrams and visual representations to make abstract processes concrete. I am patient, I listen carefully, and I adapt my approach to how each individual student learns best.
A TYPICAL LESSON
Before our first session, I'll ask about your course, your syllabus, and where you feel stuck. From there, each lesson starts by identifying the core concept we're tackling, then building up from fundamentals using visuals and real-world examples before connecting it back to what your specific course requires.
For high school students, I keep things engaging and approachable. For college students, I go deeper into mechanisms and critical thinking. At the end of every session, I make sure you could explain the concept back in your own words.
WHAT I TEACH
I specialize in AP Biology, high school biology at all levels, as well as college-level courses including Introductory Biology, Genetics, Evolution, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and Immunology.
