About Esther

I started tutoring my peers when I was a senior in high school and I loved it so much I considered going to school for education. While I did not end up studying education, I pursued any opportunity I had to teach others throughout my years at university. For 3 years, I lead a study group for a General Biology class and, for the last year, I met individually with students to assist them in understanding biological concepts. I have been told numerous times by my students that I explain things clearly and on a level that is easy to grasp. I have also been told that I would make a great science teacher because of my ability to break down difficult concepts and explain them clearly! I find so much joy in helping others learn, and I hope to be a useful resource to anyone who needs it.

About the lesson

I love learning scientific concepts, but more than that I love teaching scientific concepts and helping others understand them! As a Biology major at my university, I sometimes felt like my professors were so smart that they had a hard time explaining concepts on a level that I could understand as a student who was totally new to the concept. As a tutor, I work hard to make sure I am explaining difficult concepts to my peers at a level we can both understand. I explain concepts both visually and verbally by talking through pictures/diagrams as I draw them out. I also help my students come up with tricks to remember important phrases or concepts so that they will not forget it on a test day! Most importantly, I allow my students to talk and ask questions. The best way to make sure you understand something is by teaching it to someone else, so I give my students the opportunity to take the role of the teacher and explain concepts to me in order to make sure they fully understand what we've gone over.

I will gladly teach middle to high schoolers, as well as freshman and sophomores in college. My experience is primarily in the field of biology, but if you need help in another science class let me know! I minored in Chemistry at my university, so I also have experience in that field.
