About Rosie

I am a Health Science undergraduate student at the University of Canterbury, specializing in Biochemistry, with a strong academic background in Biology and Chemistry. My studies have given me a solid understanding of NCEA Science content as well as effective ways to approach complex scientific concepts.

My tutoring approach is structured, supportive, and focused on building both understanding and confidence. I believe students achieve the best results when they understand the “why” behind what they are learning, rather than relying on memorization alone. To achieve this, I break down difficult topics into clear, manageable steps and use real examples to make concepts easier to grasp.

Each lesson is typically 60 minutes long and follows a clear structure: a brief review of previous learning, focused teaching of a key topic, and guided practice using NCEA-style questions. I also provide feedback throughout the lesson and share revision strategies and exam techniques to help students improve their performance in assessments.

My experience includes supporting peers in science subjects, where I developed the ability to explain ideas in a clear and approachable way. This has strengthened my communication skills and helped me adapt my teaching style to suit different learners and abilities.

My lessons are designed for NCEA students from Year 9 to Year 13, covering both Biology and Chemistry. I aim to create a positive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and motivated to improve.

I take a structured but flexible approach to tutoring, focusing on helping students truly understand concepts rather than memorizing content. My teaching method involves breaking complex ideas into simple, step-by-step explanations, using real-life examples where possible, and then reinforcing learning through guided practice questions. I also teach exam techniques specific to NCEA, such as how to interpret questions, structure answers, and maximize achievement with clear marking-point strategies.

A typical lesson is 60 minutes long, although this can be adjusted depending on the student’s needs and goals. Each session usually begins with a quick review of previous content, followed by focused teaching on a key topic, and finishes with practice questions and feedback to consolidate learning. I also provide study tips and revision strategies to support independent learning outside of lessons.

I am currently a Health Science undergraduate student at the University of Canterbury, specializing in Biochemistry. My academic background provides a strong foundation in Biology and Chemistry, and I have experience supporting peers by explaining complex scientific concepts in an accessible way. This has helped me develop clear communication skills and an understanding of different learning styles.

My lessons are designed for NCEA students, primarily Year 9–13 high school students in New Zealand. I tailor my teaching to suit each student’s level, whether they are working on building foundational knowledge, improving internal assessment results, or aiming for Merit and Excellence in external exams.
