About Sophie

Hello! I'm Sophie, a History student at the University of Cambridge with four years of tutoring experience across a range of ages and abilities.

As someone from a state-school background who progressed to Cambridge, I understand both the challenges and opportunities that education can provide. I am passionate about helping students build confidence in their abilities, develop strong academic skills, and achieve results that they can be proud of.

Alongside my university studies, I have worked with students from primary school through to A-Level, including many high-achieving pupils aiming for top grades and competitive university places. I have also taught students internationally, including during a teaching placement in Hong Kong.

My aim is not only to improve grades, but to help students become more confident, independent learners who genuinely enjoy their subject. I believe that with the right support, encouragement, and teaching approach, every student can make exceptional progress.

About the lesson

I am a History student at the University of Cambridge with extensive experience tutoring students from KS3 through to A-Level. My lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs, whether that means building confidence, strengthening subject knowledge, improving essay-writing skills, or preparing for examinations.

History is not simply about memorising facts; it is about constructing arguments, evaluating evidence, and thinking critically. My teaching focuses on helping students develop these skills through engaging discussion, structured guidance, and targeted practice. I place particular emphasis on essay technique, source analysis, revision strategies, and exam preparation.

Lessons are typically one hour long and are carefully planned in advance. I create personalised resources and activities to ensure that students are both challenged and supported. I also provide regular feedback so that students and parents can clearly track progress over time.

I teach KS3, GCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate History, and I am particularly well placed to support ambitious students aiming for top grades, competitive university applications, and Oxbridge admissions.
