I became involved in party politics at age 16, worked in the House of Representatives Majority Leader’s Office when I was 20, managed a campaign California state legislature while still in college, and have spent a lifetime studying and analyzing the constantly shifting landscape that is American politics.

Politics in the United States IS the history of the United States. Conflicts over taxes, Constitutionally enshrined racial inequality, the Second War against England, the westward expansion and Native American genocide, the railroads, the Civil War, the abolition slavery and its offspring, legal segregation, the California Gold Rush, the appearance of Mormonism, the massive concentration of wealth in monopolies and the efforts to break them up, the union movement, two World Wars, the atom bomb, the Cold War, the 60s Counterculture, Watergate, the Iranian Hostage Crisis, and historical event after event right up to the present day, are all part of our “politics.” With such a broad array of incredible subjects, I like to let the students’ interests help us decide where to focus and dig deeper.
