About Soumik

Hello! I am a Biomedical Engineering student at UNC Chapel Hill, where I have spent my academic career studying the math and physics I now teach. My approach to tutoring is built on real academic rigor and a deep, intuitive understanding of STEM subjects.

My Academic Background:

I have successfully navigated an advanced, university-level mathematics and physics curriculum, which gives me the ability to bridge the gap between foundational concepts and higher-level applications. My academic background includes:

Advanced Mathematics: Completion of Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations, providing me with a good grasp of algebra, trigonometry, and calculus-based problem solving.

Advanced Physics: Mastery of advanced physics sequences at UNC, including Calculus-based Mechanics & Special Relativity, as well as Calculus-based Electromagnetism & Quantum Mechanics.

My Tutoring Philosophy:

Because I routinely apply these complex mathematical and physical models to engineering problems, I don't just teach students how to memorize steps for an exam. I teach them how to think like a scientist. I specialize in breaking down intimidating subjects like trigonometry, physics, and calculus into clear, manageable concepts, helping students build the confidence they need to excel in their coursework and successfully prepare for university-level STEM success.

Teaching Methodology & Philosophy

My approach to teaching centers on breaking down complex, intimidating concepts into logical, manageable steps. In fields like math, physics, and trigonometry, students often struggle because they try to memorize formulas rather than understanding the logic. I focus on building a strong foundational intuition first.

As a Biomedical Engineering student at Chapel Hill, I frequently apply these exact principles to real-world problems, allowing me to bring practical, engaging examples into our sessions to show how these concepts actually work outside the textbook.

Typical Lesson Structure

The Review (5–10 mins):
We start by addressing any immediate roadblocks, homework questions, or muddy points from the student's current school curriculum.

Concept Deep-Dive (20–25 mins):
Introducing or reinforcing the core topic using visual aids and interactive examples.

Guided Practice (15–20 mins):
The student takes the lead on solving problems while I provide feedback, helping refine their testing and analytical strategies.

Wrap-up & Preview (5 mins):
Summarizing what we learned and setting a clear focus for the next session.

Who These Lessons Are For:

I tutor students across a wide range of academic levels, including middle school, high school, and early college.

Whether you are trying to boost your grade in standard math, navigating advanced physics, mastering trigonometry functions, or seeking University Prep mentorship to transition smoothly into rigorous college-level STEM programs, these lessons are customized completely to your pace and goals.
