About Adana

As a student myself, I am dedicated to helping younger students succeed in their academic journeys. I attended Crofton House School in Vancouver, BC throughout middle school and high school before starting my freshman year at Boston University as a student majoring in Business Administration (this year). I hope to create an engaging and fun learning environment for my students so that they can carry a passion for learning into their future endeavours!

About the lesson

With experience as a tutee in middle school and a tutor in high school, I have had the opportunity to explore different teaching methods and evaluate which may best fit the student(s) I am working with.

Throughout high school, I was a member of the "peer tutoring club", an organization that matched younger students with older students to provide extra help with school subjects. By working with younger students, I realized that the most significant method of teaching was balance. It is a lot more effective to help younger students learn and understand concepts when they are actually engaged in the learning process. As a tutor, I will get to know my tutee and understand what they need to learn before creating a lesson plan that is both effective and fun. This way, my students will truly want to complete their assignments and learn the topics at hand.

Although most of my tutoring experience has been teaching fifth and sixth graders, I have had experience teaching storytelling to students in the first and second grade was well. I was able to keep the class engaged by teaching fundamentals such as the structure of storytelling at the start of the lesson, then immediately getting started with storytelling activities. By the end, they were comfortable enough to create and share their own stories with me, and their classmates.

Due to my experience working with younger students, I will focus on offering my tutoring services to students in elementary to middle school (grades 1-8).

If students are interested beyond my tutoring services, I teach introductory creative writing and storytelling to young students who have a passion for stories and using their imagination! I have been involved in my city's public library with reading programs and been published in their writing magazine, shortly before winning the 16-18 prose category with my creative writing piece. I hope to be able to share my learnings with students who are interested!
