About Abubakar

I have a master's degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Stavanger (UiS), specialising in Physics. My master's thesis was awarded an A.

Through several student-assistant appointments at UiS, I have supported students in FYS100, MAT100, MAT200 and ENE211. I currently assist with MAT100. My experience includes problem-solving sessions, assignment guidance, marking and individual support. I have also privately tutored UiS students.

A difficult idea can become much clearer when someone explains it in a way that works for you. In my lessons, you can ask questions, think aloud and try things out without feeling that you should already know the answer. I explain the reasoning behind each method and help you build on what you understand.

Lessons are in English, and we can work with Norwegian textbooks, exercises and past exam papers. My aim is to help you understand the subject and become more confident solving problems independently.

About the lesson

Need help understanding maths, getting started with problems or preparing for an exam? I help upper-secondary school and university students build understanding and develop methods they can use independently.

We can work on:
• Algebra, equations, functions and graphs.
• Differentiation, integration and mathematical methods.
• Geometry and introductory statistics.
• Mathematics used in physics, including mechanics.

For UiS students, my student-assistant experience in MAT100 and MAT200 is especially relevant. I have also privately tutored UiS students. We can use your syllabus, lecture notes and exercises to focus on the material you need to understand.

We begin by identifying where you get stuck. I explain a worked example, show why the method works and guide you as you try a similar problem. We practise choosing an approach, recognising common mistakes and checking the answer. We finish with a short summary and a clear idea of what to practise next.

Lessons can provide regular course support, guidance with exercises or focused preparation for a test or exam. The pace and difficulty are adapted to you.

I teach in English, in person in the Stavanger area or online. Norwegian textbooks and past exam papers are welcome. Send me your level or course code, the topic and your goal, and we can plan a useful first lesson.
