About Alyson
I am a UCLA Human Biology major and Science Education minor dedicated to making high-level science accessible and intuitive. My background as a Learning Assistant (LA) at UCLA and my formal training in pedagogy have shaped an approach that prioritizes conceptual clarity over rote memorization.
My goal is to equip students of all ages with the analytical tools and confidence necessary to excel in the classroom and beyond.
In my free time, I like to play tennis, try new matcha spots around my area, and read!

I utilize the 5E instructional model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate) to transform passive learning into active discovery.
A typical lesson consists of guided problem-solving, visual demonstrations with models/diagrams, and "teach-backs" or a quick assessment to ensure the student can confidently navigate the material solo.
I specialize in math tutoring. I have been a math tutor for 6 years, teaching concepts ranging from basic kindergarten to high school calculus and SAT math. As a UCLA Human Biology major and Science Education minor, I have experience working with high schoolers (intern at a physiology/biology high school class) and college students (Learning Assistant for Ochem and Physics).
By blending my deep subject expertise with formal pedagogical training, I help students build the confidence to tackle the most daunting STEM subjects.
